NEW ORLEANS -- The preliminary steps of BP PLC's effort to kill a damaged deepwater well in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico by flooding it with thousands of barrels of drilling mud were delayed until Tuesday, as the company discovered a hydraulic leak in the control mechanism of a cap that's keeping the well shut.
